Migraine

MIGRAINE

Migraine is one of headaches and different with the other headaches. Migraine usually only attacks part of the headache area with the unusual painful sensation like stabbed. So, the type of this headache attacks only on the left or right side of head, where on the half of head mentioned (the left or right side) felt heavier than the other half of head. More or less 5% of the world citizen is the sufferers of migraine, and ¾ of them are women. In Indonesia, as many as 60% women suffer from migraine.

The experts say that migraine can happen if the blood vessel undergoes the constriction – widening, which causes the uncertain blood stream. At this moment, the experts also focus on the system of trigeminal nerve and serotonin compound as the couple, which assumed as the trigger of the coming or absence of headache. The constriction – widening of the blood vessel is probably the cause of the painful appearance, the sparkling like fireflies eyes, queasy and vomiting, and the other uncomfortable symptoms.

For the sufferers of migraine, the doctors suspect that some of nerve impulse produced in brain swerve to the trigeminal nerve. The impulse stops in the blood vessel in the membrane of brain protector and in the scalp, the location of blood vessel becomes inflamed and swollen. Then, a painful message sent back to the brain. The result is the throbbing pain of head.

The causes of Migraine

Some of the certain substances (food), after being digested, excrete the metabolite residue, which have the direct effect in blood vessel in brain. We can find this metabolite in such foods like milk, cheese, butter, chocolate, orange, wine, tea, coffee, alcohol etc. From the result of a research have found that 74% of migraine’s sufferers are sensitive toward chocolate, 4% is sensitive toward cheese, milk and 32% is sensitive toward oranges.

Besides food, the other causes of migraine are the changes of climate and weather, high, or the time zone; the change of sleeping pattern and the time for eating; the fluctuation of hormonal level while the cycle of menstruation of pregnancy, including the therapy of estrogens for the menopause women or the use of oral contraception; the irritation of censor nerve such as the blinking and blinding lamps, the strange smell, and the polluted air or the crowded space. Although, this cannot be sure yet, but the researchers also assume that stress can add the unbalance, which produces the painful sensation. The result of pain mentioned increases the way of entering the pain in brain and hampers the system of internal painful control in brain.

The Guidance of Overcoming the Migraine

For the sufferers of migraine, if they do not want live side by side with the type of this headache continuously, the follows are some ways to overcome it;

1. Lessen for consuming caffeine. You do not have to stop your habit to consume coffee, only you need to lessen little bit to consume it for every day.

2. Stop for using the artificial sweetener. You have to be careful for choosing the artificial sweetener, although few people claim that it is good for diabetes, but it is dangerous for your migraine.

3. Decrease the activity of smoking. If necessary, you have to stop for doing it entirely. Because the chemical content of smoking can cause migraine or headache resulted by the disturbance of nerve. In addition, it can add the intensity.

4. Limit for consuming the analgesic, because by consuming the analgesic medicine in the long period can make your migraine or headache increasingly worse and serious.

5. Change your bad sleeping pattern. Try to wake up and sleep in the same time, although you only sleep for 5 hours.

6. Do you know that the contraception pill is the other factor of migraine’s trigger? This is better for you to use the safer contraception.

7. Arrange the illumination in your bedroom. Migraine reacts fast to the bright light, which comes to the eyes nerve. Dim the light while being rest or just turn the light off.

8. Lessen for consuming chocolate, cheese and wine, which believed able to enlarge the risk of migraine’s appearance. Because they contain the substance of dangerous phenylethamine for migraine.

9. Use the more fragrant soap than perfume or cologne, which has the stinging perfume or cologne.

10. Having sport, such as aerobic, yoga etc is very recommended by the medical doctors for the sufferers of migraine by adding enough rest.
